A bit of Gilbert history

Gilbert was founded in 1902 as a construction camp for the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad and named for Charles W. Gilbert of the company building the line. Its 1901 general store still stands and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Mays Store.
