A bit of Forsyth history

Forsyth was settled around 1838 and named for John Forsyth of Georgia, U.S. Secretary of State from 1834 to 1841; it became the Taney County seat the year after the county was organized. During the Civil War the town changed hands repeatedly and was burned by Union forces in 1863.
